Teresa La Chance graduated from New Mexico State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and later obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy State University. She earned her commission in the United States Air Force after completing Officer Training School at the Medina complex, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. Later on she completed Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College.
As an administrative management officer, she was a squadron executive officer and a squadron section commander at MAC, SAC, and USAFE bases in Germany, Turkey, Maryland and Michigan; she also served as a protocol officer and wing executive officer at Andrews Air Force Base, MD. It was a genuine highlight of her career to work with so many outstanding members of the Air Force One and Special Airlift Mission organizations.
She was selected into the Education with Industry program as a contract management officer and spent a year studying a major defense contractor, Westinghouse Electronics Systems, in Baltimore, Md. She was then assigned to Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH where she worked as a contract negotiator on the Advanced Cruise Missile program, as a contracting supervisor for the Wright Laboratory fuels research division, and as the Quality Management Advisor to the Contracting Chief for the Aeronautical Systems Division.
Her post-USAF positions include a year as a Volunteer-in-Service-to-America (VISTA) literacy coordinator in Rio Rancho; working as an Adult Basic Education and computer literacy instructor at Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute; teaching history at Santa Fe High School; and working as the Assistant Manager for Field Operations for the 2000 U.S. Census in Albuquerque.
